Digital Surveillance System vs. Traditional Surveillance System

All systems will eventually integrate with networks, so foreseeable network-related products, such as remote transmission, will be the biggest development trend in the security industry in the next century. Currently, global network-related products are still in the research and development stage, with issues related to bandwidth and transmission still needing resolution, and the practicality of products still insufficient. However, the future in China looks promising, and it is estimated that in 1-3 years, it may grow exponentially. After the popularity of computers and networks, the demand for a unified control of all products will emerge as a "comprehensive and integrated" requirement. With continuous development of software and product technology, it is believed that optimal solutions will be provided in the field of system integration.

Traditionally, CCTV hardware required monitors, recorders, splitters, and switchers, which took up considerable space. When expanding equipment (one recorder can only connect to 4 CCDs, and aside from purchasing CCDs, the entire set of equipment needs to be bought, which not only takes up space but also increases costs. Traditional CCTV tape, after prolonged use, is prone to wear, leading to unclear images and a short preservation period. There is also a need for substantial space to store tapes, which can be challenging to manage when in large quantities, requiring frequent manual tape changes that create recording gaps, increasing the potential for human error. Security personnel responsible for monitoring can easily turn off the recorder, stopping recording, leading to higher chances of personnel misconduct. When reviewing tapes, one can only search in a cyclical manner, which takes longer and is not easy to navigate, with no direct method to print specific images, necessitating taking photos of images on the monitor or inputting them into a computer to print, making it inconvenient with poor image quality.

In the future, expanding digital surveillance systems will be cheaper than traditional systems. Recorded images are stored digitally on hard drives and can be backed up to tapes or discs, saving storage space. Traditional CCTV uses tapes repeatedly, which easily causes unclear images, has a short preservation period, and requires substantial storage space for tapes. The main unit combines the functions of a recorder, splitter, and switcher, saving space and costs compared to traditional equipment. The recorded images can utilize image processing technology to enhance clarity or zoom in and out, and can be printed directly via a printer. Once activated, it can automatically loop record based on settings, reducing the occurrence of human errors and mistakes. Stopping recording, shutting down, and changing settings are all password protected, and without supervisory authorization, security personnel cannot arbitrarily stop recording, reducing the possibility of personnel misconduct.

Supervisors can access recorded images from anywhere using internet connection to the company system, allowing them to understand the latest situation of the company and employees at any time. They can randomly search based on recording location and time, and set bookmarks for specific images for quick retrieval, providing a convenient alternative to the traditional sequential search method. Users can also set areas for motion detection in images and configure automatic recording and alerts when motion is detected in still images. All operational functions are handled through graphical buttons, enabling direct mouse operation. Users can also set independent recording schedules for each camera, making digital surveillance systems accessible via the internet for monitoring.
